> The Mediterranean Coast of Tunisia.

After having a look round Ben Guerdane (lots of soldiers and shifty-looking types) and having the repairs done to the bike, it was time to head north again for a meeting at the Libyan Consulate in Sfax. En-route, I took the chance to see the tourist island of Djerba, and stopped off a few times. I stayed the night on a lovely hillside in the middle of nowhere, between Djerba and Gabes. The silence was lovely, and only interrupted by fearless natives.

After a successful meeting with the consular officers, I drove south to Douz for a few more days of daily phone calls to Libya, to try and hurry things up. As it happens I got a more-or-less free 2-day excursion into the far south of Tunisia (Jebili and Tambeine) as the interpreter for a tourist from Hong Kong. It was great to travel without the stress of 100% concentration - essential on a bike...

The ride along the coast towards Djerba.

The Med looks good after days of sand!.

Tempting to blast along the salt flats.

The ferry from Djerba is just like the one in Woolwich!.

A good spot for camping.

I was disappointed to find no minibar.

...but the views were worth it.

Putting these up must have been tough!

I was woken by Gerboa - wild gerbils

It actually looks like that!

The dunes of southern Tunisia.

A broken rock - how? Answers on a postcard..
